Thoughts ..

Reading the news this morning I found out that Zachary Quinto (actor: Heroes, Star Trek) "announced" that he is a gay man. Some time ago, Ricky Martin also "announced" he is gay; all these "announcements" got me thinking .. why would even have to "announce" something like that? Do straight people "announce" they are straight? Do reporters/journalists when interviewing ask if the person is gay or straight? I just don't get it!
A few years ago I had to take extra classes at my college, one of the classes I took was called Health Education. We had a assignment where we had to plan a class and present it to our peers. One classmate planned a class on how to teach about gays and avoid bullying. She did a great exercise. She had us closing our eyes and imagine the following situation: Imagine you are in an opposite world, where everybody is gay but there is one person who is different, who feels differently, who actually like the opposite sex, but can't say anything, because if they do, they might be bullied or isolated or who knows what more. Can you imagine how they feel? Can you think of something you can do to help this person who feels differently? What can you do?
All this might sound weird or too much for some people, but it just drives me crazy what big deal some people make of someone who feels they HAVE TO "announce" they feel differently from anybody else. This might sound rude but they say "your poop smells just like everybody else's" LoL it doesn't matter if you like the opposite sex, the same sex, the color of your skin, your religion, etc-etc. I just hate bullying, discrimination, and racism. Those words and their meanings should just NOT exist!!

No entiendo!!
